This is a picture of John using our K2 Transceiver on Field Day, 2000.  He was 14 years old at the time.  With only 5 Watts of power, and just using Morse code, we made about 25 contacts. We did as well as the 100 Watt guys using voice. John's call sign is W2MBY which was the call his grandfather received in 1938. The FCC gave John the chance to apply for it, and he took them up on the offer. I was able to change my call to W2MY at the same time, which was another gesture on our part in recognition of the influence his granddad had on us.

"You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is that there is no cat."                                          Albert Einstein
