July, 2008 - This is Bumper.  Why is he called Bumper?  When he was about 5 weeks old and a little wild critter of the streets, he and his brother crawled into the front bumper of a car.   Then the owner of the car started the vehicle and drove to Corpus Chrsiti A&M, where he worked.  When he arrived he heard a noise at the front of his car and saw a little orange in a hole in the front bumper.  After about an hour they got a pretty Siamese kitten out of the bumper.  When he was presented to the car's owner he said that the cat he saw was orange.  After another hour  "Bumper" was finally pulled out of his hiding place.  We had recently lost an orange Tom cat that we had adopted, but could not train to be an inside cat.  So Bumper came home with Jane.
Bumper is very affectionate.  He plays all the time with the dogs.  When he plays he knows how to give and take but sometimes the dogs don't know what to do.  He will watch TV for hours.  He sometimes sits in front of the TV and watches the Mets.  He will often sit upright just on his hind legs while doing it.  He goes after any movement on a computer screen.

   Molly, John
This picture gives you an idea of how small Chico was when we got him from the pound.  We got him in 1998, while in Katy, TX.
This is our best picture so far of Chico the puppy.  He loves to lounge out in the hot March Sun under the patio table.  He was born in December.  We got him from the Houston SPCA.  He is a Sheltie mix, and he is very well behaved.
Here is Jane (mommy) shaking Chico's paw.  He goes to a special obedience school where puppies are rewarded for good behaviour.  The dog's are never disciplined.  Actually, its the people in our family that are trained, and we get treats when we treat the dog properly.  In just three lessons he learned to walk on a leash, paw, sit, down, roll over, play dead, and spin around.
These next two photos show how relaxed Chico can be. He seems to be double jointed.
He also groans when he is experiencing pleasure. He thinks he is a cat and wants to purr. Thats what he gets for growing up with a cat.

Here is Chico with his favorite playmate, Missy the cat. Missy was 15 years old when we moved into the Katy house.  We were told that she was an outside stray, and to just feed her.
She had been hanging around the property since 1986. Then during a hurricane she ran into the garage and into a cabinet. When I looked inside, I could tell that she had always lived in there. So we let her stay in the garage all Winter. But she started to look pretty bad with all the bugs on her, so one day I picked her up, and brought her inside and dunked her into the bath tub where all four of us worked on her for about an hour. It then took another couple of hours for us to dry and clean all the bugs of her fur. She has almost  never left John's room since then. She just loves it so much in the house, after being on the streets for 15 years that she is always on her best behaviour. In fact, she lets Chico get away with murder, when he wants to love her up, and knock her around while he's at it.
Missy passed away in 2003.

This is our most regal picture of Chico. Someone that works with Jane is going to make a water color of this photograph. I'll put it on the site when it is done.
Jane and Chico.
Below is Shadow.  We got him in 1998.  He is still going strong in 2008.  Chico mothered him until Shadow figured he was better off being independent.  But they still stick up for each other during disputes with the other pets.  Shadow was an inside cat from the start.
