Ham Radio
Hams come from all walks of life. Some get very technical with equipment and others care more about communicating with others. Most like to give back to the community by using their hobby.
There are three license classes: Technician, General, and Extra. With the Tech license you can communicate line-of-sight using VHF using handi-talkies or mobile radios. This is very good for local communications. With a general class license you can use HF frequencies to communicate around the world. The extra class license gives you all possible privileges. The Technician test is geared to a 10 year old mentality, so anyone of any age can obtain a license. Six year olds have obtained extra class licenses. You just need to study a bit in order to pass the test. Experienced hams will be available to mentor you to ensure that you pass your test, and then will help you get on the air. Joining a club like STARC (www.n5crp.org) will give you much support.
We have some Technician study manuals at a discount of you are interested. For more info give me a shout (steven(atsign)pituch(dot)net), or visit www.arrl.org.
